Untitled unfinished painting about solidarity amongst women.
This painting has to do with women standing together in the face of adversity and also supporting each other when another is down. Too often women are pinned against each other when they should be working together.
“Black Girl Magic” 14X18 BY Rachel Williams
One of the first paintings I ever made! Slowly I am working on making the brush strokes slightly neater–but not too neat!
Update April 11 2019: they’ve become neater
“Bodak Yellow” 12X12 BY Rachel Williams
Acrylic painting inspired by Cardi B!
Hello, my name is Rachel Williams! I am a proud Jamaican American, and I paint women centric art that focuses on the strength and empowerment of women–specifically the empowerment of black women. Society continually creates a narrative that a women’s sexuality equates with her worth and intelligence. I believe this is wrong. My art works to celebrate women, specifically black women. I emphasize the female body as a way to reclaim it as both a literal and physical form of femininity and strength.
